About the Career Transition Program
MVCC's Career Transition Program provides Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS) to help students ages 14 to 22 with disabilities prepare for success in the workforce.
This free program, funded by ACCES-VR, assists students in identifying career interests, developing employment-related soft skills, exploring post-secondary education options, and obtaining work experience. As part of the program, students have access to a variety of invitation-only workshops, financial stipends, and applied learning opportunities.
Who is eligible to participate?
Any enrolled student at the secondary or post-secondary level who is not already receiving vocational rehabilitation services is eligible for the program. Students will need to provide a current or previous IEP or 504 plan. A note from a medical provider may also be used as a qualifier for admittance to the program.
I am still in high school; how do I participate?
MVCC has partnered with Oneida-Herkimer-Madison (OHM) BOCES in New Hartford to coordinate the delivery of Pre-Employment Transition Services to students at the high school level. Participation includes services during the school day, as well as the opportunity to participate in after-school programming. Additionally, MVCC and OHM BOCES collaborate to offer experiences that give students access to the MVCC campus several times a year. If you are in high school and want to participate in the program, please reach out to us and we can connect you with the High School Coordinator.
As a college student, how might I benefit from participating?
Career Transition Program staff collaborates with departments across the College, including Holistic Student Support, Office of Accessibility Resources, and the Career Center, to make sure Pre-ETS students are getting the support needed to be successful as a student and beyond. In addition to regular workshops centered around workforce development, students have recurring one-on-one appointments with staff, and can participate in career exploration bus trips. Students are not only paid for participation, but can gain practical work experience through our work-based learning experiences, which are also paid.
