After they married and had children, they made it a priority that each of their four children would receive a college education.

When she was in her 60s and her children were grown, Laura wanted to take a few classes in writing, something she had dabbled in as a young wife and mother. She enrolled in MVCC Rome, took courses in English Composition, and was encouraged by the instructors who found that she had a talent for writing.

At age 75, she wrote and published a book called Up and Down the Street, which gives readers a glimpse of life growing up as an Italian immigrant in Rome, N.Y. in the 20s and 30s. Both Laura and Charles valued education, and for Laura, MVCC was the college she had the opportunity to attend.

Through her coursework and the inspiration of the instructors there, she went on to write a book that is her legacy to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
