Last month, representatives from Delta Air Lines’ TechOps Services Group visited our Airframe and Powerplant program in Rome to recruit students for its new Possible Full-Time Employee (PFE) program, which provides an opportunity for new graduates to receive additional vocational training and contingent employment.
MVCC’s program was one of many stops for the Delta TechOps representatives, who visited Airframe and Powerplant schools around the country to interview students and select possible candidates to fill 30 positions in the PFE program. Nine of the MVCC 13 students interviewed were offered jobs in the PFE program, where they will make $23 per hour until they transfer to Delta TechOps, where their starting pay is $32 per hour. One of the nine students was Anthony Poile of Westmoreland, pictured above being interviewed by Delta TechOps Deputy Managers Rand Donker and Michael Bowman.
Those accepted into the PFE program will work as full-time apprentices employed by a contract company called LAUNCH (but working for Delta), and at the end of this six-month phase can be offered a full-time job with Delta TechOps.
Additionally, five September graduates of the Airframe and Powerplant program have accepted job offers from CommutAir in Albany. The Airframe and Powerplant Technology program at Mohawk Valley Community College strives to be a leader in aviation maintenance technology education focused on student, community, and employer needs. Students gain hands-on experience with real equipment and aircraft in the College’s state-of-the-art aviation training center, located along the flight line of Griffiss International Airport, about a half-mile from MVCC’s full-service Rome Campus. The FAA-authorized program (Certificate #VXYT570K) is structured as full-time, 40-hour-per-week training that runs in three consecutive semesters. Over the course of 12 months, students receive 1,905 hours of training that prepares them to sit for the examinations required to be issued the FAA Airframe and Powerplant Certificate.
