Mindfulness meditation

This technique combines concentration and awareness to help calm both your body and mind. In mindfulness meditation, you pay attention to your thoughts as they pass through your mind, but you don’t judge the thoughts or become involved with them; you simply observe and take note of any patterns. You may find it helpful to focus on an object or your breath while you observe any bodily sensations, thoughts, or feelings.

The good news is there’s no wrong way to do it, but some tips can help you get started:

  • Find a quiet place to meditate and get comfortable — you can sit, stand, or lie down.
  • Focus on your breathing and your body. Do not worry about distractions. Clear your thoughts and think deeply about where you stand at this very moment.
  • There is no specific timeframe for how long you should meditate — even short bursts can help! — but the more time you can dedicate to it, the better.
