Academic advising is a set of services, processes, interactions, and relationships that is designed to provide all students with guidance and support during their post-secondary education careers.
The academic advisors at MVCC are here to provide expert planning, accurate guidance, and stable support for you as you create, work toward, modify, and attain your educational goals. You and your advisor work together as a team to best understand the direction and purpose of a college education for you.

Scheduling an Appointment
If you are a new student who has completed the admissions steps, placement tested or had testing waived, and have completed your new student scheduling survey, you will be contacted by the College to schedule your required GPS appointment (Goals Plans = Success). At this meeting, you will review your academic goals, course schedule, and completion plan while finishing other enrollment steps. For questions, contact the Advisement Office using the advisement email or the live chat feature if an advisor is available.
If you are coming back to the College after being out for at least four consecutive semesters, you will be required to meet with an advisor in the Academic Advising Center. You can set up an appointment with an advisor by calling the Academic Advisement Center in Utica at 315-731-5710 or the Student Service Center in Rome at 315-334-7709.
We strongly encourage all current students to meet with your assigned faculty advisors throughout the semester in order to ensure you are on the right academic track, and to discuss what courses you should take for the upcoming semester. You can find out who your faculty advisor is by looking on your DegreeWorks audit or speaking with your academic department's secretary.
