Mohawk Valley Community College Math Corps, an academic enrichment and mentoring program that brings middle and high school students together with college students to learn mathematics, is seeking applicants for its free 2024 summer camp, which is open to middle school students entering grades seven through nine in any Oneida County school district. The deadline to apply is Friday, June 28, for middle school students.

The four-week camp, funded by Oneida County, will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays, July 8-Aug. 1, at MVCC's Utica Campus, 1101 Sherman Drive. The program is also open to area high school students who will act as teaching assistants for middle school classes and learn advanced math concepts in classes of their own. Applications for high school students are due by Friday, June 21. College students may also apply for positions as college assistants, instructors, or grade supervisors.

Transportation to the campus will be provided for middle and high school students if indicated on the application, and all students will receive a free healthy lunch. Middle school students also will receive free breakfast.

Math Corps, designed to enhance mentorship, enthusiasm for, and understanding of mathematics concepts, includes classroom instruction and fun project-based learning activities by local teachers and professional mathematicians. The program seeks to create a self-perpetuating corps of students from middle school through college who excel academically, hold personal values that breed success, and, through strong mentoring relationships, pass their knowledge and their values on to younger students.
