Five Engineering Science students at Mohawk Valley Community College earned merit-based transfer scholarship awards for their academic achievements. All five graduated from MVCC on Friday, May 14.
Lukas Albro of Oneida received the Joseph H. Smith Jr. ’45 Engineering & Science Medal from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute ($18,000 per year for two years), which recognizes outstanding students in engineering science programs at RPI’s affiliated community colleges. While at MVCC, Albro was a student-athlete on the MVCC Baseball Team and was named to the Vice President’s List. He plans to transfer to RPI this fall.
Four students won the Clarkson University Leadership Award, which recognizes students who demonstrate leadership and outstanding academic achievement. The award is in the amount of $15,000 per year for two years. They are Nicholas Gelfuso, Jack Mahanna, Sulaiman Al Mohammad, and Joshua Strzepek.
Nicholas Gelfuso of Sauquoit plans to major in mechanical engineering at Clarkson this fall. While at MVCC, Gelfuso was a member of the Future Engineers Club.
Jack Mahanna of Barneveld was president of the MVCC Future Engineers Club and was a student-athlete on the Men’s Tennis Team. He also was named to the President’s List.
Joshua Strzepek of Marcy plans to major in mechanical engineering at Clarkson this fall. While at
MVCC, Strzepek was a member of the Future Engineers Club and a student-athlete on
the
Men’s Baseball Team and plans to continue his baseball career at Clarkson. He also
was named to the President’s List.
Sulaiman Al Mohammad of Utica was named to the Vice President’s List while at MVCC.
MVCC’s Engineering Science AS degree program is a first choice for many aspiring engineers. With its high academic standards, our program prepares students for transfer as juniors into a variety of bachelor's degree programs, including civil, mechanical, chemical, electrical, aerospace, petroleum, industrial, and nuclear engineering. Articulation agreements with colleges such as Clarkson University, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Syracuse University, SUNY Albany, SUNY Binghamton, and SUNY Buffalo, ease the transfer of most or all credits for MVCC students.
