The Mohawk Valley Community College Cultural Series will host several virtual events during March.
Film director Loch Phillips will present excerpts from the documentary “The Last Refuge: Sharing the Story of Resettlement in Utica” as part of an International Café & Conversation event at 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 10, on Zoom. Phillipps also will share stories from interviews and explain the role of refugees in the revitalization of Utica. The event is free, but attendees must register for a ticket at www.mvcc.edu/tickets. The Zoom link will be provided after registration.
There will be a Psychic Fair with Virtual Tarot Card Readers from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 25. Sign up in advance to have your tarot cards read live on Zoom at your one-on-one virtual appointment. The cost is $5 general, $2 for MVCC employees, and free for MVCC students. To sign up for an appointment, go to www.mvcc.edu/tickets. You will receive a Zoom link in your email prior to the event.
The American Red Cross will host an online session of the Citizens Preparedness Corps training program from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 31, live on Facebook via the MVCC Cultural Series page (www.facebook.com/MVCCCulturalSeries). The training gives a comprehensive overview on how to prepare for natural and man-made disasters and how to respond to and recover from them. Participants will learn how to create a household emergency plan, prepare customized emergency kits, be aware and stay informed of the different hazards of their community, and help the community recover after an emergency.
The Cultural Series is brought to you by MVCC’s Cultural Events Council, in collaboration with MVCC’s Program Board, with significant support from the Student Activity Fee. The series maintains a major social media presence that can be followed on Facebook at “MVCC Cultural Series.” For more information, visit www.mvcc.edu/campus-events.
