On Wednesday, Oct. 16, Mohawk Valley Community College will host the event “Colorful Girls Rock” from 3 to 6 p.m. in Alumni College Center room 116 at the Utica Campus. Reality star Andrea Kelly from VH1’s “Hollywood Exes” will join local community members as they discuss domestic violence and the cost of love.
Andrea “Drea” Kelly, the keynote speaker, was married to R&B star R. Kelly for 13 years. During Kelly’s relationship with the singer, she faced abuse and trauma. Kelly is one of 50 victims featured in Lifetime’s “Surviving R. Kelly” docuseries that spoke against the singer.
Patricia Washington, coordinator for the College in Prison New Directions program, will act as the moderator for the open discussion on domestic violence, preventive services, and supports relating to today’s culture and what society tells us about domestic violence.
The event will also include entertainment, vendors, and a chance for attendees to meet and take pictures with Kelly. Admission is $5 general and free for MVCC students. Advance tickets can be purchased at www.mvcc.edu/tickets, and cash-only tickets will be available at the door.
