Twelve Engineering Science students at Mohawk Valley Community College have been awarded merit-based scholarships.

Cody Turk of Ilion received the Joseph H. Smith Jr. ’45 Engineering & Science Medal from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He is a member of the Future Engineers Club and has volunteered at the Children’s Museum. While at MVCC, Turk has earned the Exceptional Student Award and has been inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa honor society. He is a graduate of Central Valley Academy and has been active in the Mohawk Valley Choral Society. He plans to major in nuclear engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Five students received the Clarkson Leadership Award, which recognizes students who demonstrate leadership and outstanding academic achievement. The award is in the amount of $15,000 per year for two years. They are: Aman Awais of Pakistan, Max Janis of Frankfort, Noah Lape of Frankfort, Kyle Bielby of Ava, and Hayden Colvin of Canastota.

Awais is vice president of the Future Engineers Club and has volunteered at the Utica Children’s Museum. While at MVCC, she also has won the Albert V. Payne Memorial Scholarship and was named to the President’s List. She plans to major in chemical engineering at Clarkson University.

Janis is a member of the Future Engineers Club. He is a graduate of Frankfort-Schuyler High School and plans to transfer to RPI after graduating from MVCC.

Lape is a member of the Future Engineers Club and has volunteered at the Utica Children’s Museum and at the MVCC STEM Festival. While at MVCC, he earned the Exceptional Student Award. He is a graduate of Frankfort High School and plans to major in electrical engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Bielby is a member of the Future Engineers Club and has volunteered at MVCC’s NanoDays event, as well as the Student Engagement Office. He plans to earn a bachelor’s degree and pursue a career in computer engineering.

Colvin is a member of the Future Engineers Club and Student Government. While at MVCC, he earned the Presidential Scholarship and the Albert V. Payne Memorial Scholarship. He plans to transfer to SUNY Polytechnic Institute, where he will major in electrical engineering.

Six students were awarded the Clarkson Academic Achievement Award, which recognizes outstanding academic achievement. The award is in the amount of $12,000 per year for two years. They are: Alex Roux of Ilion, Raymond Banks of Rome, Cameren Drake of Camden, Joe Dibble of West Winfield, Jack Giedraitis of North Brookfield, and Niloofar Cheraghvandi of Utica.

Roux is a member of the MVCC Future Engineers Club and is an Eagle Scout. He also won the Exceptional Student Scholarship at MVCC. He is a graduate of Central Valley Academy and plans to major in mechanical engineering at Clarkson University.

Banks is also a member of the MVCC Future Engineers Club and is involved in Student Government. He has spent time volunteering at the Children’s Museum in Utica. He is a graduate of Rome Free Academy and plans to major in civil engineering at Clarkson University.

Drake is a member of the Future Engineers Club and Student Government at MVCC. He is a graduate of Camden Central School and plans to major in mechanical engineering at Clarkson.

Dibble and Giedraitis also are members of the Future Engineers Club.

Cheraghvandi is a member of the Future Engineers Club, the International Club and the Phi Theta Kappa honor society. She has volunteered at the Children’s Museum, Phi Theta Kappa events, and at NanoDays and STEM Fest at MVCC. While at MVCC, Cheraghvandi received the SUNY Diversity Honors Scholarship and the CEANY Scholarship. She plans to major in civil engineering at Clarkson University.
