Institutional Overview

Mohawk Valley Community College (MVCC) was the first community college established in New York State. Founded in 1946 as the New York State Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences at Utica, it was one of five post-secondary institutions established on an experimental basis after World War II. Today, MVCC is a comprehensive, publicly funded community college spanning two campuses in Utica and Rome, N.Y. It is associated with the State University of New York (SUNY) and is the largest college between Syracuse and Albany. MVCC is authorized to award the Associate in Arts Degree, Associate in Science Degree, Associate in Applied Science Degree, Associate in Occupational Studies Degree, as well as certificates and microcredentials approved by the New York State Education Department and SUNY. MVCC programs prepare students to enter technical and semi-professional careers or transfer for further study in a wide range of fields, including science, technology, healthcare, business, hospitality, social services, education, and visual arts. The College offers more than 80 credit program options and more than 300 non-credit workforce training pathways for over 19,000 (full- and part-time) credit and non-credit students.
