Behind, Beneath, and Beyond MVCC's Anti-Racism Statement
Presenter(s): Todd Marshall
After a series of appalling and tragic events this past summer that triggered peaceful
demonstrations, angry protests, and overall social unrest, it became imperative that
MVCC prepare a response to our college community that would not just acknowledge comparable
racial biases, disparities, and injustices in own institution, but also address them
in a way that would demonstrate MVCC's commitment to support Diversity, Equity, and
Inclusion. The Diversity Council was charged with the task to create a document that
would communicate MVCC's determination and resolve to eradicate racial inequities
from our campuses and foster a learning environment free from racism, be it conscious
or unconscious. What is the purpose of the Anti-Racism Statement? How can we get our
MVCC community to support it in word and deed? How can we move from a statement to
a call-to-action? This session will answer these questions.

to this sort of structural change because of our busy schedules. This short presentation
will include practical ideas for including course materials from peoples of diverse
backgrounds and, through discussion, invite participants to share their own ideas
