Head Coach: Ruth A. Weydig
Ruth Weydig takes over the duties of head golf coach for Mohawk Valley Community College´s Mens and Womens Golf teams this spring. Weydig brings more than 20 years experience as a PGA member to the position, which includes having been the Assistant Golf Professional at the Skenandoa Club in Clinton since 2003. Weydig instructs both group and individual lessons and is currently Coordinator of Junior Golf at the Skenandoa. She has also been Tournament Director and Rules Official for the Central New York PGA overseeing the growth of more than 48 tournaments. But her real strength lies in the success she achieved as a high school girls golf coach, where she provided basic and advanced instruction that resulted in dramatic improvement in the performance of the team members in the Oneida, Whitesboro, and Holland Patent school districts. In 2007, while coaching at Whitesboro, 4 of the possible 6 First Team All Star selections went to her team and the girls set a school low scoring record (4 players) of 167!
Weydig is a native of Central New York, a graduate of Vernon-Verona-Sherrill High School and Broward CC with a degree in Dietetics and Nutrition. She is a recipient of the 2009 President´s Council Award for her commitment to Growing the Game and Play Golf America. Weydig takes the reins from Gary Broadhurst,who continues as Associate Dean of Athletics and Physical Education at MVCC. Under the direction of Broadhurst, MVCC´s golf team finished the 2008-2009 season with a 56-31 record to place second at the NJCAA Region III Tournament and qualify for the National Championships. At the National Championships MVCC finished eighth.
Weydig resides in Verona. She has two children, Whitney 23 and Phoenix 7.
