Security in the Residence Halls
The MVCC Dormitory Corporation houses 515 students in three complexes.
Some specific safety and security features:
- Security cameras in all front entrances, the quad, and various outside areas.
- Fire extinguishers on every floor in every stairwell.
- All outside doors locked 24 hours a day.
- Student Security Assistants - seven nights a week for 3 - 4 late night hours.
- Alarm switch on fire escape doors - alarm sounds when the door is opened.
- Fire rated stairwell and suite doors.
- Assistance telephones on each floor of each building as well as in the lounge, laundry and study rooms. These may be used to contact Security by dialing 5777, or to call other on-campus phones.
- Smoke detectors/heat sensors in all Residence Hall areas, including student rooms.
The MVCC Campus Security Office maintains a foot patrol officer at night and is on-call 24 hours a day for emergencies. Seminars are offered every semester on crime prevention, date rape, fire prevention, and alcohol and drug abuse. All students are strongly encouraged to attend.
