Internet Use Policy
Access to the Internet from MVCC laboratories and libraries is available for academic, civic, informational, and cultural uses.The College reserves the right to limit time spent on its library and laboratory computers and terminals and to establish other reasonable procedures as demand and available resources require for equitable and orderly use. The College does not control access to Internet sites, and the user assumes said responsibility. Parents or legal guardians remain responsible for deciding what resources are appropriate for their minor children when the children use MVCC library Internet computers. Be aware that the content of an Internet site may not be timely, accurate, or factual.
Prohibited Activities:
Prohibited activities related to using the Internet include, but are not limited to:
- Copyright violations
- Installation of any software
- Downloading of any software except to a floppy disk
- Invading the privacy of others
- Illegal commerce
- Posting or transmitting any unlawful or unsolicited message that is threatening, abusive, libelous, obscene, or pornographic, as defined by Federal and State law and consistent with Court decisions
- Making any attempt to damage equipment or other property
- Illegal or unauthorized monitoring of electronic communications
- "Hacking" or tampering with the host or remote computer systems
- Operating businesses
Results of Misuse:
Engaging in prohibited activities may result in revocation of computer privileges and possible suspension or dismissal from College as outlined in the Student Handbook. Illegal acts through the use of College computers and computer systems may also be subject to prosecution by local, state or federal authorities and disciplinary sanctions up to and including suspension or dismissal from College as outlined in the Student Handbook.
Privacy Issues:
Users should be aware that the Internet is not a secure medium. Third parties may be able to obtain information regarding users' activities. In general, the College will attempt to treat the information displayed on a computer and /or printers as private information. Nonetheless, to the extent permitted by law, the College reserves the right to monitor access and disclose information stored and transmitted via College computers and network.
