What is special about our program?

At 4-year colleges, the general education courses are usually held in huge lecture halls with anywhere from 200-300 freshmen in the class. At MVCC, our general education classes are no larger than 40 students; professors know their students' names.

Students enrolled in Humanities Department courses make regular use of the College Library with its Internet access. The Department also has a computer lab where computer-assisted writing and literature, English as a second language, history of art, and music theory sections are held. We also offer English I: Composition, English II: Ideas and Values in Literature, Creative Writing, History of Art and Art Appreciation on-line.

In addition, students in the Humanities Department program have the opportunity to participate in trips to New York City sponsored by the Arts and Sciences Club. In addition, the Department offers Open Mic nights, The Poet's Recluse and works with Student Activities to support the student newspaper.

The Department also sponsors a Cultural Series that includes theatrical productions, music events, lectures and films every semester. The newest program, Theater, offers students the opportunity to participate in a wide range of activitie including acting, set design, sound and lighting in a new state-of-the-art 450 seat theater.
